ALGEA HOUSE
Coop.: Leonie
With the help of garbage and instructions everyone is able to understand, a communal building is being built that intends to improve both, coexistence through a community project and improving living conditions by new sources of nutrients.
The basic idea consists of a modular shelving system, the grid of which is only aligned to the size of the palm oil canisters used for cooking and can therefore be flexibly adapted to the local conditions. As an addition and design for development aid, the palm oil canisters not only serve as indicative sizes and construction material of the grid, but have a second important property. They serve as containers for algae cultures, which multiply when exposed to heat and sunlight. Spirulina, the type of algae selected for this purpose, offers the opportunity to counteract the prevailing malnutrition in the medically underdeveloped country of Tanzania.
